Exponents and Scientific Notation

Exponents and scientific notation can be very useful.  That is our topic. First, I will start with exponents.  Example  3 to the power of 4. All exponents are is the base number which in this case is 3 times itself  however many times the exponent is and  in this case it is  4. So, to solve this problem we do this 3x3x3x3 = 81 so 3 to the power of 4 equals 81.The vocabulary word used are base and exponent.  Base is the big bottom number, and the exponent is the smaller top number. You would use this in real life in the field of science because  scientific notation can represent very large numbers and very small numbers.  For example, 5.23 x 10 to the third power is scientific notation for 5,230.  How do you determine this? First, you put a decimal point after the first number (only in positive numbers). Next, you write all the numbers before the 0s meaning all the numbers before it turns to endless 0s . Then you go to the end of the # and count all the spaces until you get to the decimal point. Finally, you write x10 to the power of how many spaces you counted and thats it you did it. That was my explanation hoped you liked it.
